crazy artists pizza

I will post a art lesson for elementary students weekly on my site. I teach from the elements of art like line, shape, colors, textures, space, value, etc. This lesson is one used with a color wheel. I teach students to learn their primary colors first and blend their secondary colors only using 3 crayons. Trace a circle and divide it into 6 sections (they can draw a line in the middle and draw an X on top). You can tell the children you are making a special crazy artist pie. Label one piece red.....skip the next piece and label the next piece blue....skip the next piece and label the last one yellow. Have children write and color in thier pieces. Then ask children to guess what color the pizza will turn if you add red and blue together. Color this piece that is inbetween the red and blue with each color. Do the same for red and yellow to make orange and blue and yellow to make green. Have children cut out shapes of pepperoni and mushrooms to decorate their crazy artists pizza.
